Meet Dr. James Turner
Bakersfield Chiropractor Dr. James Turner is passionate about chiropractic. He wants to help whomever he can, but has special compassion for our veterans who return home with chronic issues which keep them from living a normal life. He’s committed to doing all he can to help these heroes.
An Incredible Journey to Chiropractic
Dr. Turner was a Division 1 football player until he suffered a major injury in the 70s. He was declared permanently disabled with severe arthritis in his entire spine, chronic migraines, neck pain, back pain, arm and leg pain, and more. Dr. Turner became addicted to Darvon and Codeine, and his doctors wanted to put him on Morphine, which he refused.
At the age of 22, Dr. Turner was told he would be in a wheelchair permanently, so he decided to take his health into his own hands. He looked into natural health care and was fortunate to connect with a doctor just out of school who was on fire for chiropractic.
After three months of care, Dr. Turner’s health improved and he could function drug free. Although his arthritis is permanent, and he has pain every day, he’s able to enjoy life, walking, riding a bike, swimming, and more. He has care once a week, every two weeks, and will have for the rest of his life—but he can function.
Dr. Turner’s experiences with the chiropractor in Stockton remained with him. The doctor encouraged him to become a chiropractor because of his personal journey. His mentor suggested he attend Palmer College, so he enrolled.
An Interrupted Education
Dr. Turner was at the University of the Pacific majoring in architecture when he was injured. He had to drop that major, but still had his engineering background. He received his Doctor of Chiropractic from Palmer in 1976. During that time, he interned at a Gonstead clinic and met Dr. Gonstead personally. He uses his teachings on a daily basis and gets great outcomes.
Dr. Turner has also done a lot of work in spinal stress and how the body compensates for trauma and stress.
